Cancer doesn’t just impact those who are suffering directly from the disease. Cancer also impacts the loved ones of those people as well. Everyone wants to be healthy but when Cancer strikes it takes a toll on everyone. In order for someone to go through the treatment to beat the disease they need the full backing and support of their loved ones. Without it they are assured to struggle and the tool it will take physically will have a serious impact on their progress. So before treatment begins there has to be a conversation with the family and here are a few of the serious questions that need to be asked.
What will this do to the family income?
It’s not a pleasant question and it is not about putting money before health, but getting sick can take a toll on the family budget. If you are not having open dialog about the money then you are making a mistake. Knowing what money is coming in will let the rest of the family know that they will have to start bringing in a source of income or they will be asked to make some serious sacrifices in the name of the family.
What kind of help will the patient need?
This is a real question with real implications. The whole family will have to pitch in if they expect the patient to get the treatment they need. Sometimes it will be a ride to the hospital, and other’s may be required to stay at home with the patient on days of chemotherapy. There may need to be a schedule change and there may also need to be family members who make adjustments to their personal schedule in order to care for their loved ones. Dealing with cancer has to be a group effort. These questions must be answered and thought out. Without these answers the road to wellness becomes difficult.
