Being diagnosed with cancer is one of the scariest things that will ever happen to you. Being told you are cancer free is one of the most amazing and liberating things that will ever happen to you conversely. There is nothing more satisfying than being told that you have a new lease on life and you are ready to go back out and take on the world. However, just because you appear ready to take on the world doesn’t mean that you don’t have some things to think about going forward.

The first thing is to make sure you follow each and every one of the doctors orders going forward. This is a non negotiable situation. Cancer can and will come back. You have to know that if you are not watching all the time you could end up finding out when it is too late. Make sure you are there for every follow up visit and every scheduling screening. There can be no mistake about this. You must be ready to help yourself.

The next thing you want to is perhaps seek the counseling of a professional therapist. Surviving cancer can be a wonderful thing but it can also bring about a lot of feelings you might not be prepared for. There are the feelings of of feeling like you survived when so many others are not that lucky. You might question why and it could bring you to thoughts that are spiritual or religious in nature. It’s perfectly ok to wonder why and to seek some questions to these answers. It’s also ok to have a trained professional listen to you as you go about your business and question these things.

Either way having a clean bill of health means more work but in the end it’s more than worth it.
