Some Numbers to Consider

According to Breast Cancer Org:

  • About 13% of all American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives.
  • About 250,000 women in the United States were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009.
  • Less than 1% of all breast cancer cases are men.
  • More than one in four cancers in United States women are breast cancers, close to the rate of melanoma.
  • African American women tend to have more aggressive breast cancer tumors, though more Caucasian women are diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • 2.5 million American women have survived breast cancer as of 2008.
  • Women with first degree relatives with breast caner are twice as likely to develop the disease as well.
  • About one in three women diagnosed with breast cancer have a family history of breast cancer.
