Many times the problem with cancer is that everyone has an opinion. Whether it be your mother, your sister, brother, father, or friend, everyone seems to know what’s best for you. You might tell a friend you are receiving treatment at County and they will reply quickly “oh no, you need to go here and see such and such.” It’s sweet that they care enough to give the this advice but there is one thing you are clear on is that you have enough opinions coming in. You need to make sense of all of them.

So where do you start and who do you trust? If you are smart you start and end with your doctor. The first step in that process is finding someone you trust. Once you trust them to take care of you and your health then you will trust that you are at the right hospital and receiving the right treatment for your condition.

When it comes to your family and their involvement it’s ok to listen to some of what they have to say but you have to take everything they say with a grain of salt. These people are not looking to harm you but you have to keep in mind that they do not have the knowledge that it would take to provide proper advice for your condition.

When it comes to the people you read online remember that none of them have a clue as to the severity of your condition. Don’t make the mistake of believing that they know what is best for you because you can rest assured they don’t have a clue what the best for you is.

It’s hard to think of all the information coming at you and pick the right one but if you are patient the right advice will reveal itself in time.
