Cancer Treatment: How to fight fatigue

Cancer treatment can be very difficult to go through and there are several aftermaths that a patient needs to face on the path to recovery. One such complication is feeling draining and tired all the time. This condition is known as fatigue. There are several phases in the cancer treatment can bring the onset of fatigue. Chemo therapy is the biggest cause of feeling drained while low blood cell count or anemia can be another. Also, the pain and lack of sleep post treatment also makes you feel tired. Finally, depression and negativity during the process will also make you feel more fatigued than you would otherwise. It is vital for a person recovering from cancer to keep a positive outlook and try to stay charged at all times.

You would need to plan out your activities and use your energy wisely. Organize your daily activities based on priority and do the ones that are important first. Take time to rest during and in between tasks so that you get a chance to recharge yourself. Get others to help you to complete tasks that take a lot of physical exertion. People recovering from cancer should take off from work during and immediately after the treatment and gradually build up working hours. Eat at least 5 to 6 well balanced meals to keep you energized all through the day. Also, it is vital that you stay hydrated so carry a bottle of water around with you instead of getting a glass of water every time you feel thirsty.

Exercising is a great way to build up energy and stamina so try to get at least 15 minutes to half an hour of a basic work out every day. Instead of doing heavy exercises like brisk walking or jogging, try cycling, stretching and yoga instead. However, don’t over exert yourself. If you start feeling tired during the workout, take a break and get some rest immediately.
