Breast cancer is one of the top killers of women. It also kills hundreds of men each year. While some women survive after the diagnosis, the best way to get through breast cancer is to prevent it from happening. Prevention is key. By following these tips, you can reduce your risk of preventing breast cancer.

In women, breast cancer is the most common of all types of cancers. In fact, breast cancer strikes about 1 in every 8 women. Sometimes it’s impossible to prevent breast cancer because of genetic ties, but certain choices can reduce your chances of developing breast cancer.

One way to cut your risk of developing breast cancer is to limit the amount of alcohol you drink. While one drink a day might not harm you, studies have linked even 2 to 5 drinks a day to a higher chance of developing breast cancer in later life. So, if you’re a drinker cut back to one drink a day or better yet, skip drinking altogether.

If you smoke, quit. Smoking is linked to much more than just lung cancer, and is in fact also linked to being behind breast cancers. Quitting can be hard, but look for quit smoking resources to help you knock the habit.

To reduce your chance of developing breast cancer, exercise at least a few times a week. Exercise lowers your risk of getting breast cancer.

Breast cancer is sometimes almost unavoidable if you have a strong family history, but certain factors and life style choices do raise your chance of developing the cancer, so make sure to read up on the subject and do your best to avoid risky behaviors, especially if you have a family history of breast cancer.
