Shelly Blechman is the Executive
Director for Women's Information Network Against
Breast Cancer™ (WIN ABC), a national non-profit
organization*. Ms. Blechman works as a program consultant to
medical centers, helping them to establish programs of
excellence for breast cancer and supervises all outreach and
educational programs for her organization. Ms. Blechman also
handles the administration and finances of the organization.
Ms. Blechman
serves on a variety of breast cancer advisory committees and collaborates with other
community-based organizations. She is the recipient of several
Service Excellence Program and Team Excellence
Awards recognizing her work and that of the WIN Against
Breast Cancer organization in implementing the Breast
Buddy Breast Care Program at several medical facilities.
Prior to
joining WIN ABC in 1995, Ms. Blechman was an educator. Along
with her years of expertise in this field and personal
experience with cancer, she brings a unique combination of
assets to help educate breast cancer patients and survivors,
medical professionals, as well as the community at large. Her
background also includes numerous years in administration,
management and accounting. She received her degree in Cultural
Anthropology and Sociology, which lends a unique understanding
of the human condition to her background.
Ms. Blechman is
also committed to increasing funding for breast cancer research. She
worked closely with Betsy Mullen, President /CEO of WIN ABC,
whose efforts resulted in the passage of the Stamp Out Breast
Cancer Act in July 1997 and issuance of the historic Breast
Cancer Research Semi-postal Stamp in July 1998.
In addition to
her position with WIN Against Breast Cancer, Ms. Blechman has
been a board member and worked as a volunteer for many
organizations. She is the co-founder of another non-profit
corporation that offers support and education to bereaved
parents. Ms. Blechman resides in Covina, California with her
husband of 27 years, Robert and their son Adam.
