Posted by Diana on 1/4/2003 from 64.41.32.21:

On 8/7 I was diagnosed with breast cancer after having a routine mamogram in which calcifications appeared. The first radiologist told me come back in 6 months....I did not listen to him and went for a second opinion....good thing for me. I had a lumpectomy on 8/23 and another lumpectomy on 9/9 and had 6 weeks of radiation therapy. I had dcis comedo and also invasive carcinoma, two separate cancers in the right breast. After the first surgery the margins were not "clean"....the second surgery provided "clean" margins. My HER2neu tests was such that I was not a candidate for tamoxifen. My hormones won't respond to it. In addition, I was Stage I. The invasive carcinoma was of an aggressive type. 3 lymph nodes were negative. My very last radiation treatment was the week before Thanksgiving. I still am having pain which keeps me up sometimes. The pain is not constant and it is no where near the incision it is in the chest wall underneath the breast .... the bones there and in the back of under my arm, no where near where the lymph node surgery took place. In addition, I have been having some horrific hot flashes (I just turned 46). How come they do not do CT scans anymore to see if the cancer has gone anywhere else? That is what I've been told because the lymph nodes were clean. How long does this pain last? It is not constant but when it comes, it puts me onto the sofa cause it hurts. Anyone else having these problems?
