I learned on Aug. 26th that I have breast cancer. Since then it has been a whirlwind of doctor's visits. Because the tumor is rather large and I am young (30), my oncologist recommended that I have a mastectomy. Both the general surgeon and my oncologist mentioned reconstruction, possibly at the time of the mastectomy. I think it would be less traumatic mentally if I woke up from surgery and there was something there. Can anyone help me with the pros and cons of reconstuction versus prothesis? I have to go see a plastic surgeon in a week and then my general surgeon will schedule my surgery.
