Dear Erika:
I am 47 and may be facing a reconstruction decision as well. I have read a lot and talked to a lot of people and I recommend if you are seriously thinking of reconstruction,do it at the same time as the surgery because they can do a MUCH better job that way. The results are far superior. I've seen quite a few pictures.

I have never had a prosthesis, but my mom did, my aunt does, and a good friend does. They don't like them at all. They are hot, cause skin rashes, move around, and most of them opt not to wear them except when they go out. You are a very young woman. A prosthesis is the right decision for many people, but the bad thing about it is if you find you dont like it and want the reconstruction, the aesthetic result (and likely the proceedure to get there) won't be as good.

The plastic surgeon will give you great info, and please do see more than one to be satisfied with that info.
Best, Lilly
