Lincy
Machorro is the Program Coordinator for the Women's Information
Network Against Breast Cancer Organization (WIN ABC)-- a
national non-profit organization.
Ms. Machorro
has a background in management and international business.
Prior to joining WIN ABC in 2001, Ms. Machorro’s career was
dedicated to benefiting children and adults with Muscular
Dystrophy (MD) diseases. Her responsibility was to assist
individuals with MD and their families in finding resources to
help them deal with the physical challenges of this
debilitating illness as well as the psychological impact it
has on their lives.
Ms. Machorro
was born in Costa Rica and has been residing in the Los
Angeles area for over 18 years. Her mother was diagnosed with
breast cancer at the age of 40 and lost her battle to breast
cancer when she was only 43. It is Ms. Machorro’s desire now
to work with breast cancer patients and their families in
order that she may make a difference in their lives and, in so
doing, honor the memory of her mother.
Ms. Machorro
will oversee the Breast Buddy Breast Care Program for indigent
and underserved patients at Harbor/UCLA and Martin Luther
King/Drew University Medical Centers.
The Project provides newly diagnosed breast cancer
patients with culturally sensitive and linguistically
appropriate information and focuses on improving consumer
health care decision-making through education, coaching and
psychosocial support.
In addition
to her responsibilities as the Program Coordinator, Ms.
Machorro
will help to coordinate additional community outreach programs
for specific populations.
Lincy’s background, skills and experience make her an
asset to those she serves.
Ms. Machorro
serves on the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services
(DHS) Breast Care Coordinator’s Sub-Committee and will be
working closely with the DHS Office of Women’s Health in
implementing the Breast Buddy Program at the county medical
centers.
Her hobbies
include reading, watching movies and crafting. Ms. Machorro can
be reached by contacting WIN
Against Breast Cancer at (626) 332-2255, email: lincy@winabc.org.
