About the WIN ABC Logo on Winning SpiritTM Awards for Our Honorees
A very special woman named Joy Burton developed
WIN Against Breast Cancer's logo. Joy was a Breast Buddy peer support volunteer
and lost a valiant fight against breast cancer in February 1999 shortly
after celebrating her 41st birthday. Her mother also died of breast cancer.
Joy was a very gifted artist and dear friend of the WIN organization. We
miss her deeply and continued to be inspired by her strength of spirit
and grace under fire as she battled a virulent recurrence.
We chose the symbol of the butterfly because
although the life span of butterflies may be short, butterflies are
a beautiful symbol of transformation, renewal and beauty; the embodiment
of survivorship.
