FAQ ]Posted by Shelly Blechman on 2/23/2004 from 216.117.212.176:In reply to: how long for results posted by Regan on 2/18/2004 from 68.166.138.125:
It is good that your mother has clinical breast exams as well as mammograms. While mammography is an important screening tool, it is not 100%. It misses about 15% of all lumps. History is not as much of an indicator for breast cancer as that accounts for only about 7-10% of all diagnoses. The majority of those individuals diagnosed with breast cancer have no history of it in their families.
The other things you mentioned, being over 30 before having her first child and her age, are not "causes" of breast cancer, but rather risk factors.
I know it is difficult to wait, but your mother should have her results within the week.
I would be glad to send you and your mother some general information about breast health and/or breast cancer if you like. Please stay in touch and let me know how things go with your mother's mammography results.
I will keep both of you in my thoughts.
