Posted by Kim on 10/16/2003 from 198.30.209.53:

I am 23 years old with a history of cancer on both sides of the family. I have always felt lumps in my breast (which I guess is somewhat normal) but in April I found one that seemed different. At that time I had my OBGYN do an exam with my yearly pap and nothing seemed abnormal. I did not point it out at that time. I don't know if it has changed or it was due to the fact that I have lost 74 pounds since January and I was able to feel it better now. I had the lump in my breast examined yesterday. The doctor said that is was distinctively different and said that she was going to send me to have a mamogram and ultrasound next Tuesday and to a surgeon the following Tuesday. The appointment with the surgeon was too late for my husband to come with me, so he asked if I could call and have the appointment made earlier. I did that this morning, but it is now for a week later than the original appointment. I am worried that is too long of a wait. Do I have anything to worry about or will the 3 week wait be okay?
