Posted by Diane Crutchley on 1/19/2003 from 205.188.208.138:

I had a breast biopsy done 12th December. The small lump was right behind the nipple, it turned out to be a polyp. Well a couple of days after the surgery it swelled and turned hard and began to bleed and got very painful, so off I went to the emergency. The next day I had to meet up with the surgeon and he said that to go back in there would put everything back to day one and cause more bruising so it was left. A week later the swelling had gone down but I woke up to bleeding from the same area and ended up in the emergency again. It was bleeding quite well. Again they called a surgeon in who said the same thing as the first. Not to do anything because it would cause more bruising. Apparently my body decided to expel the blood from the bruising while some peoples bodies just get rid of it internally.

Well here I am 5 weeks later and the other day had a very painful and miserable day and still am getting small amounts of discharge. I called the surgeon (he makes himself available, so am lucky there). He said the drainage could go on for weeks and to shower everyday and compress it. Well the swelling is still there and it still bothers me. This surgery was worst than a hysterectonmy.Lucky it turned out to be nothing but the after effects has been something else.

How much longer do you think this swelling and pain will go on for?
I've also been told to cut back on estrogen and was wondering if that adds to everything.
