I understand your concerns over finding a suspicious lump and the confusion associated with getting a definitive answer. I believe you have been speaking to someone in our office who has been helping you. I think that it is wise to get a second opinion if you have questions and feel uncertain over moving forward. I would also want to know why the radiologist would want to biopsy a fibroadenoma as they are benign and why the surgeon recommends removing it. If it is benign, then it will not become cancerous.
I would question the radiologist to see if he has some concerns. If his concerns are valid, then the only way to know for sure if you have a benign lump is to perform a biopsy. If you choose to have a biopsy, then selecting a less invasive type might be preferable to an excisional biopsy as your surgeon is recommending.
Please keep in mind that we are not health care providers. Also, it is very difficult to render an opinion without knowing all the facts of any one particular case.
If you have not received any information from WIN ABC, then please contact me and I will be glad send you information on questions to ask your doctor. I would also like to speak with you directly to help guide you in obtaining a second opinion. You may email me with your telephone number or call me toll free at (866) 2 WIN ABC (294-6222).
