FAQ ]Posted by Shelly Blechman on 9/25/2002 from 216.117.218.7:In reply to: trubbling news on 2nd pathology posted by Katy on 9/13/2002 from 64.66.203.246:
First, thank you for your input about the web page, we will have our web master check it out.
Next, I am so sorry that you had such a bad experience with your biopsy and the health care professionals.
One of the things that our organization emphasizes is for individuals to seek a second and even a third opinion before they make such important decisions. It is important for people to realize that you can even get a second opinion on a pathology reading! At every step along the way, an individual can seek a second opinion in order to feel confident about the choices they are making.
I wish you had contacted WIN ABC a couple of years ago so we could have helped guide you through this process as well as send you information that could have helped with your decision-making process.
We work with many physicians from many different medical centers and know that they work with very reliable pathologists, both at the facility and independent labs. Sometimes, detecting cancer is not that easy. Cells in the breast that become cancerous go through a continuum of changes before they will become cancerous. It is not as though there is a good cell one and it becomes cancerous the next. But we also know that there are the occasions when there are mistakes.
Finding ways to become actively involved in a positive manner (e.g. fighting breast cancer through education, awareness and early detection, helping to support breast cancer organizations and events, even on the legislative front) can help you deal with some of your frustrations.
Please remember that WIN ABC is here as a resource for you as well as others. You may contact our office toll free at (866) 2 WIN ABC (294-6222 anytime for help with questions or concerns.
Thank you for your valuable feedback on your personal situation.
