FAQ ]Posted by Shelly Blechman on 5/24/2002 from 216.246.34.217:In reply to: phylloide tumors posted by sheila on 5/23/2002 from 205.188.197.59:
Phyllodes tumors, as you already know, are very rare. The vast majority of these types of tumors are benign and do not metastasize. Numerous investigations found that phyllodes tumors recur locally only about 20% of the time while one medical facility found only an 8% local recurrence rate, probably due to obtaining more extensive margins during the lumpectomy. If there is a recurrence, it can be easily excised. Fewer than 5% of all phyllodes tumors (benign or malignant) metastasize. *
I know that this may not give you 100% reassurance, but the odds are greatly in your favor.
Please understand that it is very difficult to render an opinion without knowing all the facts of any one particular case. I strongly recommend that you pursue your question(s) with your own physicians. You should feel fully empowered to obtain a satisfactory answer and feel free to seek a second or third opinion.
If you would like, I would be glad to send you additional information. You may send me an email or call toll free to (866) 2 WINABC (866-294-6222).
