I do know of people that have had this treatment with success. The deaths related to Herceptin have been relatively small in comparison to numbers who have taken the drug successfully. I had read that back in 2000, Genentech (mfg of Herceptin) had announced that there had been 15 deaths related to taking this treatment out of approximately 23,000 who had taken the drug. 47 others had adverse effects including allergic shock and extreme respiratory distress, most symptoms occurring with 24 hrs of administration. Again these numbers are relatively small (.06% and .2% respectively) in comparison to the larger number of individuals who have received this treatment.

If you would like, we can connect you with individuals who have had this treatment as well as some of the researchers and providers who have developed and used Herceptin. I would recommend that you discuss your concerns with your providers and see what their recommendations are and what provisions they make for patients that may have adverse reactions.

As with all medications, there are risks and as informed healthcare consumers, we need to learn as much as possible then we need to weigh the benefits versus the risks and make and informed decision.
