I had recon about 2 years after my mast. Had the DIEP which uses tummy fat and skin but does not move any muscle. See www.diepflap.com or www.breastflap.com. My ps waits 6 months after radiation. Said they used to do recon before radiation, but had many problems. To do the nipple my ps uses a small piece of rib cartlege. It has to be removed to reach the mamary artery when he connect the tummy flap to the chest. He leaves it just under the incision so it is available when he does the nipple recon.
