Posted by Lynette Davis on 8/23/2000 from 152.163.205.59:

I am five years out from my original diagnosis of breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy and three lymph nodes were positive. About a year ago I started having uterine bleeding. Biopsies have been negative for cancer, but we are having trouble finding a medication that works to stop the bleeding. This is nuisance bleeding, not hemorrhagic. At any rate, my oncologist has given me the option since I am five years out to stop my Tamoxifen since he thinks my risk of uterine cancer is higher than recurrence of breast cancer looking at my symptoms. If it were up to him he would stop the Tamoxifen. But he is leaving the decision up to me. Tamoxifen is a crutch, a life line, a safety net for me. I am still not great at self breast exams (can you believe that) and really rely on this pill - which makes me sound ignorant. So my question is - since statistics for staying on Tamoxifen after five years are not available (are there even any), should I worry more about getting uterine cancer at this point. I am 54. I was having periods up until chemo and Tamoxifen - I guess now I am definitely in menopause. Thanks so much for listening and I look forward to any feedback you all may have. Again, thank you.
