FAQ ]Posted by Shelly Blechman on 7/31/2000 from 216.246.34.217:In reply to: Underwire bra causing breast cancer? posted by Carol on 7/27/2000 from 152.163.206.198:
While underwire bras have been implicated in contributing to fibrocycstic conditon (lumpy, bumpy breasts), there has never been any evidence to indicate the connection between underwire bras and breast cancer. If this were true, then all breast cancers woud occur bilaterally (which is rare), instead of the majority of breast cancers occuring solely in the left breast, and 50% of those occurrences being in the upper left quadrant of the breast. What about all the small breasted women who don't wear bras that get bresat cancer as well? I would rather think that family history might be the greater link, than your bra.
