FAQ ]Posted by Diane Hunt on 7/19/2000 from 24.216.91.180:Hello,
I have had 2 mammograms since Jan. of this year along with an ultrasound. First I should say I am a 52 year old female. I have had thyroid cancer and cervical dysplasia of which I had to have a total thyroidectomy and a hysterectomy. The mammograms showed dense breast tissue in my right breast along with calcifications and a cyst. I wasn't told how large the cyst is or even spoke to the Dr. reading the X-rays. The Dr. who did the ultrsound would not answer any of my questions. All I ever found out was the cyst is supposedly to be fluid filled. This really doesn't quiet my fears because I received in the mail an appointment set up for me to go to Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta to have another mammogram. It has diagnostic mammogram with other checked on it along with these numbers 174.9- 610.1. I have no idea what this means. (The other mammograms were done locally.) From what I have read fluid filled cyst are mostly benign, but I can't help but worry. The cyst is still there according to the technician who took the last mammogram, but I received a letter from the hospital saying mammagram was normal. I'm confused since now I have to go to another hospital to have another mammogram on August 28.
Do cysts go away? If so how long does it take for one to disappear? This one was found in Jan. of this year.
