In reply to: radiation effects posted by Beverly on 4/7/2000 from 63.204.179.226:

Dear Beverly:

I did not have radiation therapy as part of my breast cancer treatment (I had a mastectomy, immediate reconstruction and chemotherapy) so I cannot speak from first-hand experience. However, I do get dizzy very easily. Has that been the case with you prior to your radiation treatment(s)? Have you discussed this with your health care team? Perhaps there is a type of medication or more specific creative visualization you can take and practice to help ease your symptoms.

We have some excellent resource links on this web site (in WIN's Resources section) as well as tips to help you through radiation treatment in the Help Yourself section of this web site.

It is very difficult to render an opinion without knowing all the facts of any one particular case. But one strong recommendation we would like to make is that you pursue your question(s) with your own physicians.

You should feel fully empowered to obtain a satisfactory answer and feel free to seek a second opinion. We have some great tips on partnering with your health care team and key questions to ask your doctors, communication tips and informed decision-making tips to help you get the information you need. We also send out (all free of charge) scores of information about breast cancer treatment including the WIN Against Breast Cancer Resource Guide.

There is a special form on our web site that you can fill out and e-mail to us to help us best meet your needs and you are also welcome to call us at (626) 332-2255. Your information will be kept confidential.

I will close with this thought and a saying of mine: "When in doubt, check it out." Everybody is different and every body is different. You know your body well and are your own best advocate. You should always feel free to pursue your questions and concerns with your health care team.

I wish you healing and good health and look forward to hearing back from you for an update on how you are feeling.

My warmest regards,

Betsy Mullen
