I am not aware of this happening to most patients. Usually the wire is just left in for the surgery to guide the surgeon to the area of suspicion where they want to take a tissue sample. There is a good description of this type of procedure on the link below.
I would recommend you speaking with your surgeon to find out the answer to this question. You should feel satisfied with the doctor's answer or you may want to seek a second opinion with another doctor.
