It is normal to have some pain and swelling after a biopsy. The degree will vary based on each individual and the extent and type of biopsy.

These are questions that are best addressed by the doctor who performed this procedure. As his nurse answered these questions but you still have some concerns, you are always encouraged to seek second opinions. I would not be concerned about taking medication to prevent infection. It does not occur that often and you will see your doctor for a follow-up to this biopsy. It can be determined at that time if any subsequent treatment is necessary.

I would give yourself some time to heal. If there is no improvement, then contact your doctor.
