My last two pet scans showed what the doctors called hot spots in the chest wall. They are very small and nothing shows on the CAT. The report reads as being consistant with met bc. My oncologist doesn't seem concerned about the PET. He said that they are ultra sensative and that as long as my CAT doesn't show anything, that he wasn't going to worry. He didn't even order a PET this past round of test. My first BC was in 1993, second in the same place in 97 and believe it or not, after a mastectomy, the third was in some remaining breast tissue this past year. First go round was lumpectomy with radiation, second was mastectomy with 6 cycles of tac chemo and last treatment was hysterectomy, radiation and arimidex. He feels as though this will cure me. Should I be concerned about that PET scan? I trust his expertise, but at the same time, I have a 3 year old to raise. Are PET scans really to sensative? And if they are, then how do doctors know when to believe them? If anyone has any experience with this issue, please respond. I have been blessed so far not to have mets, but I don't want to turn my head and be sorry later. Thank you!
