There are many people that have reactions to dyes and still are able to have CT scans that are useful in determining status results. I consulted with a radiologist who confirmed that your radiologist is correct in terms of getting a good result in looking at your lungs without the dye. However, if they needed to look elsewhere, such as the liver, then they really would need the contrast. The radiologist I spoke with also said that there are non-ionic dyes that could be used and that it would probably be best to have you on a type of steroid or antihistamine prior to using this type of dye to alleviate the potential for a reaction.

I think it is wise that you consulted with your radiologist. However, you should always feel free to seek second opinions at every level of your care and treatment.

AN IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please keep in mind that we are not health care providers. Also, it is very difficult to render an opinion without knowing all the facts of any one particular case. One strong recommendation we would like to make is that you continue to pursue your question(s) with your own physicians.
