FAQ ]Posted by PamL on 6/27/2002 from 128.101.50.67:In reply to: need modified mastectomy-free flap vs implants? posted by china on 6/22/2002 from 205.188.198.41:
China,
I was faced with the same decision last year and after talking with my plastic surgeon and weighing my options I went with an implant. My decision was based on possible limitations in my physical activity, the pain involved and the recovery time. With the implant surgery I was back to work in a week (I had my reconstruction surgery 2 years after my mastectomy so there were additional steps that I had to take prior to the actual implant which included one additional surgery and several trips to the doctors office in-between but the time I lost from work was minimal.) I was told that the other surgery would require at least a 6 week leave from work. I had my surgery in October of last year and I'm very happy with the results and have had no problems with the implant.
Good luck with your decision.
Pam from Minnesota
