Patti,
My wonderful brother gave me a piece of advise when I found out I had cancer. He said that if you can get past the "C" word, you'll realize that this disease can be treated, even cured, just like so many other diseases. I think the stigma of cancer is just as frightening as the disease itself. You wondered how we manage to stay so positive - well in my case the alternative wasn't acceptable. Believe me there were plenty of tears and I was terrified at times, but I chose to fight and live. They've made so many advances in the treatment of breast cancer even in the 2 years since I had it and it's all so encouraging.
I joined a "living with cancer" support group and it helped me tremendously. It's encouraging and enlightening to be able to talk to others going through the same thing. They're even there for the families. I highly recommend checking this out.
Good luck and God Bless!
Pam from Minnesota
