The side-effects aren't as horrific as most people think, and the doctors can treat the side-effects along with the cancer. There are anti-nausea drugs that work really well. I always scheduled my chemos for Fridays so I would have the whole weekend to recuperate. My hair fell out 2 weeks after my first chemo. It was recommended to me to shave my head once the hair started coming out. I did and it made the experience easier to have it done all at once instead of letting it fall out by itself. My local chapter of the American Cancer Society gave me a wig for free. It wasn't as fancy as a salon wig, but since I was only planning on wearing it for about 6 months, it worked out for me. I went to my regular hair stylist and she trimmed it up for me and I was happy with the results.
I think the most important thing is to pamper yourself. Your immune system is going to be compromised by the chemo drugs so try to stay away from large crowds where there could be lots of germs. Stay away from greasy or spicy foods, get plent of rest and relaxation and ask family/friends to help you out when you feel tired or a little sick.

Good luck with your treatment

Pam from Minnesota
