Dear Nina:

The publication below that I referenced in my previous message is no longer available in print:

"Management of Cancer Pain: Clinical Practice Guideline Number 9", published by the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR), US Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Service, 1994; written by Ada Jacox, D.B. Carr, R. Payne, et al. AHCPR publication number 94-0592. This publication is available from AHCPR Clearinghouse, PO Box 8547, Silver Spring, Maryland 20907; telephone: 1-800-358-9295.

The following information is regarding the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) that originally published the document. You can access a summary of Management of Cancer Pain: Clinical Practice Guideline Number 9 via their web site at http://www.ahcpr.gov/. I have established a link below this message for your convenience. You can also order a free catalog of their publications on-line and/or by calling (202) 512-1800.

"The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) research provides evidence-based information on health care outcomes; quality; and cost, use, and access. Information from AHRQ’s research helps people make more informed decisions and improve the quality of health care services. AHRQ was formerly known as the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research.

Mission: To support research designed to improve the outcomes and quality of health care, reduce its costs, address patient safety and medical errors, and broaden access to effective services. The research sponsored, conducted, and disseminated by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) provides information that helps people make better decisions about health care." I have had the pleasure of working with this fine organization and can attest to the importance and quality of their work.

My best regards,
Betsy
