FAQ Posted by Tracy on 2/6/2001 from 206.227.203.57:In reply to: Tamoxifen posted by Shannon on 2/6/2001 from 196.25.233.245:
Shannon, I would encourage your friend to get more information before taking the step of having a hysterectomy. I have been on Tamoxifen for a year now, and the only Tamoxifen related side effect that I know of that would indicate a hysterectomy would be cancer of the uterine lining (Taomxifen slightly increases your risk of this type of cancer.). Also, if your friend is still pre-menopausal and still ovulating, cysts are normal on the ovaries. A woman’s ovary produces a cyst every month at ovulation. I would also be concerned about the doctor recommending HRT for a woman who has had breast cancer. Everything that I have been told by my doctors, and all of the research that I have done advises women who have had breast cancer to avoid Birth Control Pills, HRT, etc. I have however, heard cases where doctors recommend removal of the ovaries for women with a strong family and personal history of Breast Cancer, the theory being to remove the source of estrogen that feeds these cancers. Please note that I am not a doctor, I am just relating my experiences. It is great that your friend has someone who cares so much about her. A little support goes a long way.
