Posted by Donna on 6/28/2000 from 205.188.197.178:

Hello,

I just found out that I have to have a stereotactic needle biopsy due to calcification in my right breast. The calcifications are located at the 11:00 position & are in a cluster of more that 5 particles. Needless to say I am scared to death, as the radiologist wrote on his report "suspicious of maligancy" when referring me to the surgeon.

I've read all the information that you recently had posted about calcifactions in the breast. (That's how I knew to ask about the number in my case!) Also, my dr. (the surgeon) told me that the radiologist probably stated the "suspicion of maligancy" so that they would follow-up on my case with a biopsy, rather than just a "wait and see attitude" that is sometimes taken with calcifaction in the breast.

My big question is could anyone tell me exactly how this biopsy takes place. Am I lying down, etc.? I know that I will be awake for the procedure and my dr. told me that my breast will be in a "form", but I didn't think to ask any more questions about this procedure.

He also told me that once they do the procedure, it takes a couple days to find out the results, so it seems like all I've been doing is waiting, ever since I got the dreaded call that said they found something on my mammogram.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Sincerely,

Donna
