FAQ Posted by Betsy Mullen on 4/6/2000 from 152.163.194.178:In reply to: lump posted by SEW on 4/5/2000 from 205.188.197.169:
I suggest that you make an appointment with your personal physician for a clinical breast examination (which should include your underarm (axilla) area.
We have information on how to perform a proper breast exam on this web site, and you can register for monthly breast self exam reminders.
WIN ABC will be happy to send you information about breast health, free of charge. You are welcome to telephone us at (626) 332-2255 and/or fill out the Special Form at the top of this page (a link to the form appears in blue). All of your information will remain confidential.
Here is my saying: "When in doubt, check it out".
Depending upon your age, you should discuss the appropriateness of a mammogram with your physician.
Here are a few questions that come to mind and that should be discussed with your health care team:
Is this lump a new finding?
Do you have a family history of breast cancer?
Do you have any known breast cancer risk factors?
You should feel fully empowered to ask questions and receive full, complete and thoughtful asnwers to your questions from your physician(s). We are also strong advocates of second opinions.
The majority of breast lumps do turn out to be benign (noncancerous), but, if it was me, I'd get in and have the lump checked out.
Please let us know how you are doing and what your "next steps" are.
