More research is needed to develop cancer treatments that are less toxic, more specific -- targeting only cancer cells and more effective in treating and curing cancer.

The advocacy community has a very large voice in making these issues front and center in the minds of researchers, policy makers, the media, the public, corporations and health care providers.

I worked for two years to make sure that the Department of Defense's Breast Cancer Research Program was a beneficiary of the Breast Cancer Research Stamp. Advocates/breast cancer survivors have a seat at the table with scientists during the peer review process of critiquing research proposals for funding.

The 2-year term of this special stamp designed to save lives is almost over and we once again, have to convince Congress to pass legislation to continue this vital project.
