Posted by Shirley on 3/26/2000 from 205.188.197.153:

I was diagnosed 8 yrs ago. I had microcalcifications which were found to be a 4 mm. tumor (very small and presumably very early) but the margins were not clear because of microscopic cells. Therefore, I had a lumpectomy and then a mastectomy with abdominal tram reconstruction. Two positive nodes were detected on axillary disection. . I am ER positive and histology reports showed slow growing cells. Cytoxin/adriamic was my treatment followed by 5 yrs of tamoxifen. At my last check-up my tumor markers were elevated (>40 and normal cut-off is 25-30) and although I am aware that this is non-specific, I am also aware that slowing growing cancer cells which migrate can appear in a delayed recurrence. I would like to know what others have experienced in this regard. I am scheduled for a re-test in two weeks.
